Northwestern NetID and Maintainence

What is a NetID

Your Northwestern University Network Identifier (NetID) and password verify your identity when accessing Internet resources and Northwestern administrative information. No matter what are told, NetID account has nothing to do with our department computer account. When you changed the password there, it does not affect the password in our system; and vice versa.

The PH Electronic Phone Directory

Your name address and phone number are automatically added to the directory when you enroll in a school or are hired as a full time employee. This directory supports the mail forwarding system that enables you to have unique name (alias) for you email at Northwestern University (e.g. user@northwestern.edu). All mail to this address is automatically forwarded to your current email account username at an email account host.

Forgotten passwords

If you forget your password, you must return to IST with your Wildcard to set a new password. The IST account clerks are in Kresge in Evanston, and Wieboldt Hall in Chicago. No one can tell you your old password, it is encrypted and hidden. No one will change your password over the phone, because IST cannot positively identify persons over the phone. You will be issued an "enable-password". Take the enable password to an IST lab and select your new password.
