Northwestern University Math Society

Lunt Hall in Summer

The Northwestern Undergraduate Math Society (NUMS) is a group of students who, regardless of their major, share an interest in mathematics. NUMS sponsors academic and social events throughout the year. Refreshments are provided at most events. Information on NUMS events is distributed through its listserv. Among its activities are

  • talks by faculty, grad students, and undergraduates about research and recreational mathematics
  • films about mathematics or with mathematical themes
  • panels on summer research opportunities in mathematics
  • game nights with mathematical themes
  • panels about mathematics career opportunities, including actuarial careers
  • prior to registration in Spring Quarter "oral CTECs" in which students talk about their experiences in various courses and with various teachers

Newly declared math majors are automatically subscribed to the NUMS listserv.

  • To subscribe, send a plain text email to listserv@listserv.it.northwestern.edu with the text "subscribe MATHSOCIETY your name"; no subject necessary.
