Math Society (NUMS)

The Northwestern Undergraduate Math Society is a group of students who, regardless of their major, share an interest in mathematics. The Society sponsors academic and social events throughout the year. Among its activities are

Refreshments are served at most Society events.

Prior to registration in Spring Quarter, the Society hosts its "oral CTECs" in which students talk about their experiences in various courses and with various teachers.

Information on Math Society events is distributed through its listserv. To subscribe, send an email message to listserv@listserv.it.northwestern.edu, replacing the words "your name" that appear in the body of the message with your actual name. (If that doesn't work, send your own email message with the text "subscribe MATHSOCIETY your name"; no subject is necessary).

Beginning in September, 2009, newly declared math majors are automatically subscribed to the NUMS listserv. The welcome message you receive from the listerv explains how to unsubscribe.

Pi Mu Epsilon

Northwestern also has a chapter (Beta of Illinois) of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national Math Honor Society, which was founded in 1914 to promote scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions.
